What (really) Happened When I Started Drinking Apple Cider Vinegar

The real effects of starting an apple cider vinegar regimenSome of you have probably seen posts, pins, statuses, etc. listing the merits and miracles associated with drinking apple cider vinegar everyday. It is claimed to help regulate your blood sugar, control appetite, promote regular digestion, improve your heart health…the list goes on and on. Since I am not qualified to talk about the science behind these claims, I will let you do your own research on this subject. (For some people this may include talking to your doctor. Please don’t take this post as medical advice of any sort. It is just my experience.) This post will tell you about my personal experience with drinking apple cider vinegar.

After I did my research about the benefits and risks, I decided to give apple cider vinegar a try. I have been drinking a cup of hot water with two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and half a tablespoon of honey 4-6 days per week for about 6 weeks now.

I do want to point out that you want an organic, unfiltered vinegar with the “mother” like this one here: Bragg Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar, 16 Ounce – 1 Pack

Here is what I noticed:

I actually enjoy it.

Once I got used to the taste (think pickle juice mixed with apple cider), I kind of like the flavor. I also enjoy having an extra warm drink to add in to my morning routine. It’s sort of the same calming effect of having a cup of tea while I get ready for work.

My energy has been more consistent.

I don’t want to lead you to any wrong conclusions – my morning still involves an average of two cups of coffee per day. Before starting acv, I would have little energy crashes in between my cups of coffee and early in the afternoon. Now I am more consistently awake and ready for my day.

My acid reflux has been under control.

I have pretty severe acid reflux, but I can usually control it with my diet. In college I would get ulcers and stomach aches constantly. Now that I eat well consistently, I get milder side effects. In the past 6 weeks, I have had less random hiccups throughout my day and haven’t noticed as much indigestion as usual.

My digestive system has been more regular.

I don’t know for sure if this is the apple cider vinegar at work or not, but I have noticed a change in my bathroom schedule. To be perfectly blunt about it, I poop everyday now and I didn’t before.

I snack less throughout the day

Like I said before, this is not a miracle cure, but on days that I drink apple cider vinegar in the morning I tend to make it to lunch with only a small snack after breakfast. Usually I am a big fan of second breakfast.

Have you tried an apple cider vinegar regimine before? Are you thinking about trying it now? Let me know your thoughts!

    • Haha. Any excuse to eat more pickles, right?? You could always try it and if it doesn’t taste good, you don’t have to do it again. 🙂
      Thanks for reading

  1. I definitely believe in the benefits of this. Unfortunately I have gastritis so I can’t drink it. (It raises the acidity of my stomach too much and really hurts).

    • I can relate to having a problem tummy. It is no fun. 🙁 Thanks for reading.
