What (really) Happened When I Started Drinking Apple Cider Vinegar

The real effects of starting an apple cider vinegar regimenSome of you have probably seen posts, pins, statuses, etc. listing the merits and miracles associated with drinking apple cider vinegar everyday. It is claimed to help regulate your blood sugar, control appetite, promote regular digestion, improve your heart health…the list goes on and on. Since I am not qualified to talk about the science behind these claims, I will let you do your own research on this subject. (For some people this may include talking to your doctor. Please don’t take this post as medical advice of any sort. It is just my experience.) This post will tell you about my personal experience with drinking apple cider vinegar.

After I did my research about the benefits and risks, I decided to give apple cider vinegar a try. I have been drinking a cup of hot water with two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar and half a tablespoon of honey 4-6 days per week for about 6 weeks now.

I do want to point out that you want an organic, unfiltered vinegar with the “mother” like this one here: Bragg Organic Raw Apple Cider Vinegar, 16 Ounce – 1 Pack

Here is what I noticed:

I actually enjoy it.

Once I got used to the taste (think pickle juice mixed with apple cider), I kind of like the flavor. I also enjoy having an extra warm drink to add in to my morning routine. It’s sort of the same calming effect of having a cup of tea while I get ready for work.

My energy has been more consistent.

I don’t want to lead you to any wrong conclusions – my morning still involves an average of two cups of coffee per day. Before starting acv, I would have little energy crashes in between my cups of coffee and early in the afternoon. Now I am more consistently awake and ready for my day.

My acid reflux has been under control.

I have pretty severe acid reflux, but I can usually control it with my diet. In college I would get ulcers and stomach aches constantly. Now that I eat well consistently, I get milder side effects. In the past 6 weeks, I have had less random hiccups throughout my day and haven’t noticed as much indigestion as usual.

My digestive system has been more regular.

I don’t know for sure if this is the apple cider vinegar at work or not, but I have noticed a change in my bathroom schedule. To be perfectly blunt about it, I poop everyday now and I didn’t before.

I snack less throughout the day

Like I said before, this is not a miracle cure, but on days that I drink apple cider vinegar in the morning I tend to make it to lunch with only a small snack after breakfast. Usually I am a big fan of second breakfast.

Have you tried an apple cider vinegar regimine before? Are you thinking about trying it now? Let me know your thoughts!

  1. My mom actually participates with this regimen every morning. Not only does it have the above benefits, but it has helped her lose weight. Her clothes are literally falling off, her waist is shrinking, and her stomach is getting flat. I say that I will try it, but I just haven’t done so yet. There are so many great benefits.

    • It has definitely been good for my digestive health. What has stopped you from trying so far?

  2. I can verify this too!! I’ve been using Apple Cider Vinegar with Mother for a couple years now and I feel so much better. I started using it because of my stomach problems. All those are gone and life is good. Best part. My digestive system is 100% better than what it was before.

    • Thanks for sharing! I was afraid that it would upset my sensitive stomach, but my digestive health and acid reflux have been noticeably better.

    • I really have enjoyed it. The benefits are great and I haven’t had any negative side effects. I do dilute with water to keep from exposing my teeth and body to too much concentrated acid.

    • Better digestive health and decreased appetite are great steps towards weight loss!
      Thanks for reading.

    • I know that a lot of people just do shots of it because of the taste, but I was not comfortable with exposing my teeth and throat to the concentrated acid everyday. I do like it with the warm water and honey. If that’s all you’re worried about, then it’s worth trying once!
      Thanks for reading.

  3. I have been wanting to try this just to see what it was about. I have heard about mixing pineapple juice, apple cider vinegar and a bit of honey and drink it before each meal. I think I am going to start it just to see what happens with me.

    • I’ve never heard of drinking it with pineapple juice. That may be good! Let me know if you try it. 🙂

  4. I have heard that Apple cider vinegar being a magic weight loss aid but I’ve never tried it myself. It seems you had great results with it that’s great

    • I wouldn’t buy into the magic weight loss claims, but it has some definite benefits!

  5. Apple cider vinegar is amazing. It does so much for my health. It’s great for common illnesses too, like cough or colds. I think it’s one of the best home remedies.
